Aurore jewelry
We only use high quality materials and diamonds for Aurore jewelry. All jewelry is made of 18 carat recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds with a minimum quality of GH-SI.
Detailed information about these materials can be found on the pages about lab diamond and recycled gold .
lab grown diamond
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond that is man-made.
The result is chemically and in terms of properties (hardness, visual, etc.) exactly the same as a natural diamond from a diamond mine. So only the origin is different; a lab diamond comes from a lab. We would like to introduce you to our lab diamonds on the information page.
Lab diamond is diamond. Only the origin differs: A lab diamond originated in a laboratory, in contrast to the natural diamond that is excavated from nature in diamond mines. Furthermore, they have exactly the same optical, chemical and physical properties.
Globally recognized geological institutes, such as the IGI, therefore provide lab-grown diamonds with official certificates of authenticity, just like natural diamonds.
Chemical formula
Lab diamond: C (Carbon)
Natural diamond: C (Carbon)
Hardness (Mohs Hardness Scale 1-10)
Lab diamond: 10
Natural diamond: 10
Refractive Index (RI)
Lab diamond: 2.42
Natural diamond: 2.42
Average density (kg/dm3)
Lab diamond: 3.51
Natural diamond: 3.51
Dispersion
Lab diamond: 0.044
Natural Diamond: 0.044
Conclusion
Lab diamond = diamond. Because a diamond from a laboratory has the same composition, physical and optical properties as a diamond from nature, the difference with a natural diamond cannot be seen. Not with the naked eye, not with a magnifying glass and not with a microscope.
But the lab diamond also has the same positive properties as natural diamonds: A beautifully sparkling stone that is 100% wear-resistant! In addition, the process is 100% conflict-free and there is no negative impact on nature due to large-scale excavations in the diamond mines.
Lab diamonds are unique:
The natural process of diamond formation is mimicked in a lab to create diamond in a lab. Because this natural process cannot be fully controlled, lab diamonds are also each unique and a strict selection takes place (based on the 4Cs), which are also certified by worldwide geological institutes.
Zirconia is the most commonly used alternative to real diamond in jewelery in the Netherlands. Zirconia ('cubic zirconia' (cz)) is an imitation diamond. Zirconia is therefore a stone that is made to resemble a diamond, but it also has different physical and optical properties due to its different (chemical) composition.
Chemical formula
Zirconia: ZrO2 (Zirconium Dioxide)
Diamond: C (Carbon)
Hardness (Mohs Hardness Scale 1-10)
Zirconia: 8.0-8.5
Diamond: 10
Refractive Index (RI)
Zirconia: 2.15 - 2.18
Diamond: 2.42
Average density (kg/dm3)
Zirconia: 5.6 - 6.0
Diamond: 3.51
Dispersion
Zirconia: 0.058 - 0.066
Diamond: 0.044
Conclusion
Because Zirconia has a lower hardness, it is not possible to sharpen the stone as sharply as diamond. The edges of the cut are rounded with zirconia, where they are completely sharp with diamond. This leads to greater brilliance and sparkle in diamonds.
In addition, the lower hardness of zirconia makes it more sensitive to scratches and chemicals than diamond. Zirconia therefore becomes duller with wear, something that will never happen with diamonds.
The positive properties of a diamond can therefore only be partially imitated with imitation diamonds, such as Zirconia, but cannot be matched!
No, the distinction between lab diamond and natural diamond is impossible to see. Also for a 'diamond merchant'. The fact that you are wearing a beautiful piece of jewelery with a sparkling diamond, of course! So you will have to tell others if you want to make your sustainable choice for our beautiful jewelry known to others!
Because lab diamond is similar in material (chemical composition, physical and optical) to natural diamonds, it is impossible to tell the difference, not even with a magnifying glass or a microscope. For example, something that can be (clearly) seen with imitation diamond (such as Zirconia or Swarovski / crystal).
As the name suggests, a lab diamond is created in a laboratory. The diamond starts as a small carbon seed and then grows into a rough diamond. For this, the conditions of nature are imitated. After this, a diamond is cut and tested to be processed into a piece of jewelry. Discover everything about the creation of lab diamonds .
The advantages of lab diamond are equal to those of natural diamond: the hardest material with an unrivaled brilliance. However, lab diamonds are a more sustainable alternative and also offer a price advantage compared to natural diamonds.
The 4 C's are Carat, Cut, Color and Clarity. Diamonds are assessed on the basis of these four points and are therefore given a certain grade and value. Discover all about the 4 C's.
